Merseyside ICT was
formed in November 2003 by David Bold. Its purpose was to represent the ICT
sector on Merseyside and was funded by a
combination of the North West Development
Agency and the European Social Fund. The
company was steered by Frank Coward of
Gardner Systems and David Bold of Software
Generation with Steve Smith as the
operational director.
The company was domiciled in the
premises of Gardner Systems.
Its activities included
forming and supporting local business
networking groups though to setting up and
hosting fact finding tours into Europe and
the USA.It was particularly successful in
helping key developing companies reach new
customers and markets. It was also very successful in
attracting inward investment to Merseyside
for the ICT sector.
However Merseyside did
not have many large IT companies and it was
difficult to find financial sponsorship to
take the work further forward.Despite interest from IBM and
Microsoft there was not enough impetus to
continue the work and during 2007-2008 the
staff, who had done a superb job with the resources
available, left for other opportunities.
At the end of 2008, the funding came to an end and with it the end
of the sector representation.Frank Coward resigned his
directorship and David Bold took over the
role of CEO but retained the premises within
Gardner Systems.
In April 2009 the
company launched its trading name of
SkillsGen and commenced the delivery of IT
oriented training, with particular focus on
Microsoft technologies being a Microsoft
Gold Partner and holding the Learning
Competency which enable it to deliver
Official Microsoft Courses – the only
company on Merseyside so qualified.
It also opened
additional premises in Hatton Garden from
which it delivers Software Development and
Network design and support.
